Description

You will absolutely love running this review lesson with your students, it is so motivating for them! And it is a special moment when the whole class is engaged and fully focused on their learning.

Benefits of Lab Equipment SPLAT Review Game:

  • Students LOVE playing it – they get really excited!
  • It improves memory and recall of key information
  • Students are active in their learning
  • Low-to-no prep: simply present the slides & print/assign the worksheets
  • Did I mention… it’s so much fun!

Here’s how my SPLAT review game works:

  1. The class is split into two teams.
  2. One player from each team comes up to the board at a time.
  3. Players stand with their backs to the board.
  4. The teacher reads a statement.
  5. Players turn around and race to splat the correct answer, by saying, “SPLAT!” and touching the answer.
  6. A scorekeeper tallies the points.

After the game is over, assign the student worksheet to let students test their understanding individually.

*More details/rules in the game slides.

F.A.Q.s

Do I need an interactive whiteboard?

Answer: Nope – you can use a normal whiteboard, projector, etc.

How difficult is it for students to learn the game?

Answer: It’s pretty easy – I recommend doing a couple of practice rounds so students understand the format and rules. That’s all it takes!

Is it editable?

Answer: Some parts are editable, including the key vocabulary/info on the teacher statements – so you can make it perfectly aligned to your grade level and curriculum.

What is in the student worksheet?

Answer: The worksheet is a summary for students to complete independently. They will see if they can remember the correct answer for each statement. This is a great way for students to test their understanding of the content. There are animated answer slides for the worksheet in the game slides.

How long does it take?

Answer: The whole review lasts around 45-50 minutes. Here’s a breakdown:

  • 5 minutes – Explain the rules, organize teams
  • 25-30 minutes – Play the game
  • 5-10 minutes – Students complete the worksheet (+ early finishers task)
  • 5 minutes – Go through the answer slides for the worksheet

And if you have extra time, you can use the early finishers task to play a few more rounds of the game!
